Why you should make this grilled chicken and peaches

This meal was so quick and easy, but it also filled us up. It makes great use of summer produce and moves the cooking outdoors to avoid heating the house.

Peached glazed chicken with grilled peaches

Once I put the chicken on the grill, 10 minutes later, dinner was done. That is a speedy summertime meal. And one that everyone will love.

Peach glaze ingredients for grilled chicken

This simple homemade peach glaze comes together quickly, and can be made ahead of time. It tastes a bit like a peach BBQ sauce, which is not a bad thing in my book.

To add a little heat to this sauce, try my peach pepper jam.

Ingredients for peach glaze

To make it, combine everything in a small pot and let it cook down for 5 – 10 minutes, until it is thickened to your liking.

How to make it

Preheat your grill and clean the grates. Then, lightly oil the chicken and season it. Let the chicken cook for 5 minutes on one side, then flip it over.

When you flip the chicken, add the peaches to the grill.

How to make grilled chicken and peaches

When you have about 3 minutes left of cooking time, brush the peach glaze on the grilled chicken. Let everything cook for the final few minutes, then remove the peaches and chicken at the same time.

Tools and equipment

You’ll need a basting brush to coat the chicken on the grill. I like these silicone brushes. They are inexpensive and they work well.

The other tool you will need are long grill tongs. These are just like kitchen tongs, but longer. I don’t like the heavy-duty grill tongs, I find them cumbersome. These fit in my hand much better and are easier to use.

Grilled chicken and peaches Q & A

Here are a few quick tips, and some answers to frequently asked questions.

How long does it take to grill chicken breasts?

Depending on the size and thickness of your chicken, on average it takes about 10 – 12 minutes total.

Can I make this in the oven?

Yes. You can bake the chicken for 25 minutes at 350°F instead of grilling.

How long do I let chicken rest before slicing?

It is very important to let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes before cutting into it. You can loosely tent it with foil to keep it warm.

Serving suggestions

I served this grilled chicken and peaches with fresh basil, tomatoes from the garden and ciliengine, or mozzarella balls. Everything came together so deliciously, I would highly recommend serving it this way.

Glazed grilled chicken and peaches

This glazed grilled chicken and peaches makes an easy summertime meal.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup peach jam (homemade or store bought)
  • 1/4 cup canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 Tbsp. dark brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. kosher salt, divided
  • 1 tsp. black pepper, divided
  • 1 1/2 lbs. chicken breast (4 chicken breasts)
  • 2 tsp. canola or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

Make the glaze

  1. In a small sauce pan, combine peach jam, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, vinegar, half of the salt and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  2. Simmer for 5 - 10 minutes, until slightly reduced and thickened. Remove from heat and purée. Set aside.

Grill the chicken and peaches

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high heat (375°F - 400°F / 190°C - 200°C)
  2. Rub oil evenly over chicken breasts. *see note
  3. Season chicken with remaining salt and pepper, garlic powder and onion powder.
  4. Grill chicken for 10 minutes, flipping halfway through. Add peaches to the grill when you flip the chicken.
  5. When you have 2 - 3 minutes left, brush the glaze onto the chicken. Keep an eye on it, as the sugar can cause it to burn!
  6. Remove chicken and peaches from the grill and serve with fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella, if desired.

Notes

Do not be tempted to oil chicken liberally. This causes flare ups on the grill and your chicken will be sooty. Use the smallest amount of oil possible. The chicken will naturally release when it is ready.
