How to make a Strawberry Arnold Palmer

Strawberry lemonade iced tea, otherwise known as a Strawberry Arnold Palmer is one of my favorite summertime beverages. This mocktail is perfect for enjoying during the warm days of summer, as is my strawberry iced tea.

This strawberry arnold palmer is a delicious combination of lemonade and iced tea blended with fresh strawberries. Quick and easy to make, this drink would be great for summertime parties or gatherings of any kind.

If you have kids at home who are out of school for the summer, they probably have a few friends hanging around too. A big pitcher of this would certainly help cool them off.

What is an Arnold Palmer?

Arnold Palmer was a famous golfer. I know this because of my grandfather, who was a golf enthusiast (read: obsessed). He passed that love of golf to my brother, but it skipped right over me. The only thing I really like about golf is driving the cart.

As far as the drink is concerned, an Arnold Palmer is a mixture of lemonade and iced tea. The ratio most people use is half and half, but you can adjust that suit your tastes.

Strawberry Lemonade Iced Tea

Recently, I posted a recipe for strawberry lemonade. If you’ve made that recipe, you’re already halfway to this drink. You can add a bit of tea to it and voila, you’ve made a Strawberry Arnold Palmer.

If not, you needn’t worry, you’ll be sipping this delightful beverage in no time.

Iced tea is something that I usually only make in the summer. The same goes for lemonade, and I’m not really sure why. Especially given the fact that I live in a state that is cool roughly 4 days out of the year.

We went to the beach last month and I remembered just how much I like iced tea and lemonade. I made each of us a quart to sip on all day and we both finished it before noon.

If you are starting from scratch, the first thing you’ll need to do is make a quick strawberry simple syrup. Then we’ll blend that with a bit of tea, lemon juice and water to make our drink.

I’m going to use half lemonade and half iced tea, but you can adjust it to your personal preference. Some days I like less lemonade in it and more tea, it depends on the day. Use your favorite tea – whether it is black, green, herbal, etc. I used black tea in mine.

There are a few types of black tea that you’ve likely heard of: Darjeeling and Ceylon. A few popular black tea blends would be English breakfast, Irish Breakfast and Earl Grey. This particular brand of oolong is also a personal favorite if you’re trying to decide which tea to use.

Make it a cocktail

I love having something in the fridge that I can turn into a cocktail in 3 seconds flat. When friends come over and want a cocktail, I look like I’ve got it together when I come walking out with this.

To turn this mocktail into a cocktail, add a shot of vodka or white rum to your drink. I’m a bourbon lover, so a splash of that would also work here. If you really want to get fancy, add some limoncello! It already has a lovely lemony flavor, but the limoncello will make it extra citrusy.

Here are a few more summer cocktails that we enjoy: Blueberry White Wine Spritzer / Strawberry Sangria / Cherry Coconut Rum Slushies / Strawberry Daiquiris / Rosé Sangria with Summer Fruits

Ingredients

Strawberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 1/2 pints strawberries washed and hulled
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups water

Lemonade Iced Tea

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 4 - 6 tea bags

Instructions

  • Steep tea bags in 4 cups boiling water for 6 - 8 minutes (brew times will vary depending on tea used).
  • Remove tea bags and refrigerate tea for an hour to cool.
  • In a small sauce pot, combine sugar and water to make simple syrup. Simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until dissolved (about 5 minutes).
  • Remove from heat, cool to room temperature.
  • In a blender, combine strawberries and simple syrup. Blend until smooth.
  • Add lemon juice and strawberry simple syrup to brewed tea. Stir to combine.
  • Serve over ice!

Notes

I make this drink a little strong because I pour it over a glass full of ice. If you prefer it less so, add an additional cup or two of water to the pitcher to make it a bit weaker.
If you are in a hurry, you can cool the tea in an ice bath: Set tea inside of a bowl of ice water, stirring occasionally to cool. Make sure your container of tea has a flat bottom so it doesn't tip over and spill!
