Ingredients

  • 1 bottle white wine
  • 1 cup peach nectar or pure peach juice
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup or, to taste
  • 1/2 liter peach seltzer water optional, but I usually use it
  • 3 peaches
  • 4 plums
  • 1 cup cherries
  • 1 lemon sliced (optional)

Instructions

  • Make the simple syrup by combining 1/2 cup water with 1/2 cup sugar. Bring to simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar has completely dissolved. Cool completely. (this can be done ahead of time)
  • Slice 2 peaches and 2 plums, reserving the remaining peach and plums for serving.
  • Add wine, peach juice, simple syrup, peaches, plums and half of the cherries to the pitcher, give it a good stir and refrigerate.
  • When ready to serve, add seltzer water (if using) to sangria and give it a quick stir.
  • Add ice and fresh fruit (peaches, plums, cherries and lemon, if using) to each glass, pour sangria into glasses and serve.

Notes

If you have the time, let the sangria sit in the refrigerator all day or overnight. This will help infuse it with all of the luscious fruit juices.
The seltzer water is optional, but I usually add it because it lightens it up a bit. On a scorching hot summer day, I need a light beverage. Plus, it means I can have another glass because the alcohol won't hit me as hard. If you're a lightweight (like I am), add the seltzer.
