- 3 cups old-fashioned oats 270g
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup pure pumpkin purée 227g
Preheat oven to 350°F / 180°C / Gas mark 4.
Add oats to the bowl of a food processor.
Let machine run for 1 - 2 minutes, until oats are almost flour consistency with a few big pieces left.
Add pumpkin purée and eggs, mix to combine until dough looks uniform.
Turn the dough out onto a floured countertop, and work some of the flour from the counter into the dough until it is no longer sticky. You could also dust the dough with a teaspoon or two of flour and place between 2 sheets of parchment paper to roll out. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to roughly 1/8" thick, then cut treats out with a cookie cutter and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. *Dipping the cookie cutter in flour every few treats will prevent the dough from sticking to it.Gather scraps, re-roll the dough, and cut out more treats until you've used up all the dough. *See notes for scooping treats instead of rolling out. Bake for 16 - 18 minutes, rotating halfway through.
Cool completely before giving to your dog.
If you want to scoop and flatten the dough instead of rolling:
- Instead of rolling out the dough, use a small cookie scoop to portion the dough, then flatten the balls of dough with the tines of a fork (like a peanut butter cookie). Dip the fork in flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake according to instructions above.
If you have an older dog or a dog with dental issues or a dog that prefers softer treats
- You can bake 14 - 16 minutes, this will give you a softer treat instead of a crunchy one. Make sure that it is baked all the way through before taking the entire tray out of the oven.
I used a 2" cutter, the recipe made 90 dog bone treats.
