It is officially summer and that means pitchers of lemonade and iced tea. Around here, we like to try different versions of both of these beverages and this strawberry limeade recipe has quickly become a favorite.
It is made with only four ingredients and it comes together in about 5 minutes, making it a perfect thirst-quencher when you want something quick and easy that tastes great.
If strawberry lemonade is more your thing, you’re in luck! Swap out the lime juice for lemon juice to make lemonade instead.
Easy Strawberry Limeade
I have a confession to make. Until about a year ago, I’d never been to a Sonic, let alone had their cherry limeade that they are so famous for. Apparently, they also make a strawberry limeade. Who knew?
I’ll admit, I’m not really up to speed with fast-food restaurant trends. It’s not that I turn my nose up at it, I just usually end up making things myself at home. Also, going to said fast food joint would involve actually getting in the car and going there. It seems like less trouble to make it at home.
Strawberry Limeade from scratch
Making this strawberry limeade from scratch takes only a few minutes. The first step is making a simple syrup from sugar and water.
The reason I make the syrup instead of just adding sugar to the limeade is because sometimes it takes awhile for the sugar to dissolve. Have you ever had lemonade that had grains of undissolved sugar at the bottom?
A simple syrup eliminates that because the sugar gets dissolved into the water over heat. Once the syrup is made, we blend it up with the strawberries and add the lime juice and water. That’s it!
While we’re on the subject of fresh ingredients, please don’t be tempted to use bottled lime juice. It just won’t taste the same. Fresh squeezed lime juice only takes a few minutes and it is so worth it.
Homemade Strawberry Limeade
This limeade is perfect for summer parties. It would also be great for baby showers and birthday parties. Make a double batch and put it in a large glass drink dispenser for guests.

• a blender – most of you already have one, but if you don’t or you’re looking for a new one, this one is great for smoothies too. Crushes ice like a champ!
• citrus reamer – this is your least expensive option for juicing lemon and limes.
• manual citrus juicer – a step up from a citrus reamer, all you have to do is squeeze!
• electric citrus juicer – I have arthritis in my hands and sometimes I just can’t squeeze the manual juicer hard enough to get the juice out. If you have arthritis too, this could be a good option.

Strawberry Simple Syrup
- 1 1/2 pints strawberries, washed and hulled
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup fresh squeezed lime juice, about 8 limes
- 4 cups cold water
- In a small sauce pot, combine sugar and water over medium heat. Stir to combine and simmer over medium heat until dissolved.
- Remove from heat, cool to room temperature.
- In a blender, combine strawberries and simple syrup. Blend until smooth.
- Combine lime juice, strawberry simple syrup and water. Stir to combine.
- Serve over ice.
If you like your limeade less sweet, you may want to reduce the sugar. If you like it sweeter, increase sugar to 1 1/2 cups.
Also, if you like it less strong, add an additional cup of water.
